Q: Rumor has it that if Panorama doesn't perform well this year, you
will be fired as the GM, is this true? Team owner Antoni Karagounis
expects a big year or heads will roll. How do you deal with this pressure
of such a hands-on and demanding owner? Antonis is under
investigation because he allegedly told his promoters to go sell Moutso
(#33) Panorama jerseys in the gym without a license, do you believe in his
Jerry Jones type attitude where he wants to make all the money and not
share it with other team owners?
Moutso: I will be fired? By who
myself? Please, I carry all of Panorama events…as well as this team.
Nobody puts more pressure on me then myself. Don’t forget…I am the dj
my friend…I am used to pressure. This team has had injury problems and
“locker room distractions”, that has plagued this team in the past,
this past off-season, I addressed those issues. I got rid of the locker
room distractions, Kosta is back from injury, I drafted the kid Gay
Charles (who has looked brilliant at times this year), as well as the free
agent acquisitions of John Burns, and Paul Handakis. However, the most
important move I made, was getting legendary coach Phat Cat Primus. For
you jabronis who don’t know Cat coached in Kenner League, coached Steve
Francis’s summer league team, and 9 of his players the last 3 years are
playing division 1 basketball. Cats knowledge was crucial to this team,
and it is great to look in the huddle during a time out or halftime, and
see every single teammates eyes focusing on coach Cat. Cat is the one
voice that will lead this team to a successful future. Cat has instilled a
no nonsense attitude to this team that ultimately will be carried to the
court. I know nothing about the throw back vintage 33 Moutso jerseys for
sale. Currently my number is 00.
Q: After last year you went a recruiting mission, definitely the
#1 recruiting class. Do you think you have built a championship
caliber team? People talk about how Yianni Marlas just left your
team, rumor says you personally got ride of him because you wanted to be
the best DJ on the team. What actually happened behind closed doors?
What would you say to Yianni if he wanted to come back and play with you?
Do you think he will help Nick's Diner achieve their goal of a
championship? Also, are you the best DJ in the Greek League?
Moutso: Of course, I went on a
mission…we lost every game last year. With veteran leadership of
“White Boy” Andre DeMoya, all world player Kosta Kesides, Chris
“Buff” Dier(who is having an all star year), I got a steal in free
agent “Tan line” John Burns, along with #1 pick “Gay” Charles,
Pete Moutso”Nation” providing a spark off the bench along with Greg
“trailor park” Trakas, “the cousin” Kosta Raptis, and “The
Rock” Aurthur Mantzouranis, and with free agent center Paul Handakis(who
will be bringing championship experience with him) soon to be off the
injured reserve…I DO believe that we have the pieces for Coach Cat to
bring a championship to Panorama Productions. I already am having a trophy
case built in the dj booth at Glow/Zei to display it to Paul Oakenfold,
George Acosta, Christopher Lawrence, Skribble, Fragma, Sasha & Digweed
and many other world class djs that I bring. Yianni was not happy with us
for some reason. But I guess the opportunity to play with Slappy was just
too much to pass up at this point in his career. I believe it was for the
best…Nicks diner got the veteran leadership they needed (although still
don’t have a point guard) and in Gay Charles, I got a point guard with
heart, who is athletic and fast as shit, who plays defense, and will stay
with Panorama for the next 10 years or so. I would take Yianni back in
some capacity, maybe in a year or two when he retires, he can be VP of
Operations for Panorama, or be that special person to relieve Charles for
2-3 minutes per game. I know Yianni leaving was business not personal, but
I don’t believe Diner winning or losing this year will depend on him.
Greg needs to step it up this year. Its contract year for Mush, if he is
not happy, I would take him in a heartbeat. If Slappy can stay clean all
year, he can be a spark off the bench. Yianni needs to stay healthy…Tsahalis
needs to get it through his head that he is NOT the #1 offensive option on
that team (he is however the #1 ladies man on that team) and he needs to
feed the ball to Phil and George more. That team needs a real coach to
lead all the head cases on the team. And of course I am the best damn DJ
in Greek League, DC, and soon Global jabroni…I'm that damn good.
Q: After not winning a game last year, your team beat the
defending champions Vourvoura the first week of the year. Some say
you were gloating in front of the twins, how good did it feel to beat
them? Also, the villagers in Vourvoura were shocked and upset
that you beat your own village. It is rumored that if you return to
Vourvoura that the villagers will have your head. What would you say
to the people of Vourvoura and to your relatives in the town?
Moutso: Of course it felt good beating
Vourvoura. This year, is all about revenge. All these teams that destroyed
us last year, will go down this year. I deny all allegations that I was
gloating in front of the twins. Vourvoura better watch it…me and Pete
Sampras are the only claim to fame that that village has.
Q: Now your team is 2-2, with two very close losses. How
do you think your team will finish this year? What is the key to
have a successful year for Panorama?
Moutso: I think that we will get
better as the year goes on. The players believe in Coach Cat's philosophy.
We believe in his system, and our confidence is growing. There is hope in
all of our games, unlike last year. I think as all of our free agents,
draft picks, and current players, get more comfortable with each
other…the more dangerous we will be to play down the road. We still have
Paul Handakis coming back, and Cat has a rotation now, so we still have
not even peaked yet.
Q: You are in the best shape of your life and playing the best
basketball of your life, what motivated you to work out as hard as you do?
Was it for the Panorama basketball team? Why hasn't this work ethic
spread to other teammates like Andre De Moya or Greg Trackas?
Do you think those two will ever be in shape?
Moutso: Thank you for noticing that I
am in shape this year. After having my ass handed to me on a plate week
after week last year in Greek League, I decided to do whatever I could to
make this team better, and I started with myself. Teammates John Burns and
Chris Dier guided Kosta Kesides, and me frequently worked out with me on
the court to prepare me for the rigors of greek league. Andre and Greg
need to get in shape for the team, and their own good. However, it does
not matter what I think, Coach Cat makes all the basketball decisions now,
and he will be the one to handle this situation. I have personally worked
out with Andre since the New Year, and he is showing progress. Greg
“Hotplate” Trakas has a big contract and he will count a lot against
the salary cap next year…he needs to show Cat that he wants to be here
next year.
Q: Here is your chance to vent to the league, you may discuss
anything you want in this part of the interview.
Moutso: I want to make it clear that
now, Coach/GM Phat Cat Primus will handle all basketball operations of the
team, and he only consults his decisions to Antonis and myself.
